This is the direction for this tree, one of 3 I have worked on today. The idea is to go for an informal upright style. Many people would go for a cascade but I find it is more challenging as an upright. The main leader will need to grow out more so I can select more branches at to top of the tree.

Regards

Peter

Out of winter. Potted 3 weeks ago and now putting on new growth. I have gone away from the original design and going for the semi cascade which will give me a better result in the short time frame.

A month on and it is putting on growth. I have wired some of new foliage down. I am finding my big hands not suited to Shohin.

Peter

Lovely little tree and pot combo.
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

After looking at the last photo I realized that it needed some more work. Today I tried to give it better structure with what is there. Hopefully over the next 3 months it will put on more foliage so I can fill the holes.

The final photos.
This will fill out more over the years to come, which will enable me to structure it more. The shape will probably stay as is for now. At this stage it will get a rest from all the poking and prodding.

Peter

Hi Peter,
Just did a little slide show on your juniper, WOW. Go back and have a look. And yes I know how you feel with hand and shohins..... Why why why do we do it. Mate the only thing I would change- remove about 1/3 of the branch on the left and definitely give it rest. It's a lovely little tree, can appreciate the work and effort. Well done :tu:
Cheers Rod
