Love this tree and what has been achieved in such a short time. Need to go out and get myself a casuarina. :tu:

I appreciate the feedback and nice comments, thanks. :tu:

Dario, I was very careful when repotting so as not to touch the bark. I only handled it by the upper branches (without fissured bark) or by the roots.
The progression pictures were simply pasted together in MS Paint. Only took a couple of minutes to do but is pretty effective at showing the transformation.

Regards,
Steven

Steven,

Nice progression. I have one I am working on but with a bit more of a natural style. In other words, still not sure were it is going.

Its interesting that you have used that particular pot  , as I have bought one as well and yet to find something to put in it :lost: . Another member on this site was so unimpressed with the finish on the pot that they asked Pat to remove it from his display until they had gone  .

You have proved that it does look good with the right tree in it :aussie: .

Regards,

Peter

Steven, after seeing the final image of the tree, the answer to my question appears to be a resounding "yes, it does have shohin potential". It's clear after seeing this tree evolve over 14 months that we could produce show quality Casuarina torulosa shohin in 5 years or less. In a competition context, excellent choice of species, raw material and execution of design, topped off with great final presentation.

Thank you.

Cheers,
Mojo

Hmmm... I wonder who could have disapproved of Pat's beautiful meringue pots???? Steven's looks a lot less edible than the white-and-scorch one I saw here. Anyway, I said already much earlier in the year that Steve's Caasuarina was a masterpiece. And if I didn't use those exact words, I should have. :worship: :worship: :worship:

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Peter, I've had that pot sitting around for about 3 years waiting to find the right tree for it.
Pup, I'm going to accuse you of being a suck hole for not commenting

If anyone is interested, Leong at Bonsai South has a few more of these torulosa available in 4, 6 and 8 inch pots.

Regards,
Steven

P.S. Something that I didn't mention earlier. When I potted this one into the PK pot, I removed about 90% of the roots and it hasn't skipped a beat. It has been continually growing and is due for another trim already.

I second that notion! Have a small one on the go and have been using this as inspiration ever since the comp was going

G'day and thanks for the interest.

This one still hasn't stopped growing even since having 90% of the roots removed and being squashed into a little pot. I've been letting it spread its wings a bit and have only been plucking it every 3 weeks
2013 January (resized).jpg
I'm still intending on doing some branch thinning to improve the structure as well as tweaking the first branch.

Regards,
Steven
