Re: [Andrew] Ulmus Parvifolia
Wow that is quite an interesting tree you have gotten yourself, I will be watching closely.
Are you planning on layering it above the bulge at the base? Or will that be worked into the design?

I have had this for some time and had no Ideawhat to do with it I will just cut it of above the bolg and build a new tree from what grows out.

Re: [Andrew] Ulmus Parvifolia
I really like the natural shape and aged look of this tree already
Fantastic basis for IMO broom style
Whatever style you choose I will like updates as I think it has loads of potential anyways, best of luck with the tree

Re: [Andrew] Ulmus Parvifolia
Yesterday I took the elm out of the styro box and into a pot that will not be the final home for this one. I will repot it in a shallower pot after winter. Just need to give it some time to get used to having such a heavy root prune.
I am still abit unshore about the base with that big gap

The gap gives it character, let it be.
If you are not killing plants, then you are not extending yourself as a gardener..

Re: [Andrew] Ulmus Parvifolia
I don't mind the gap either. Whilst not perfect in the sense of the 'ideal' in bonsai, it gives great character to the tree. Perhaps more penjing than bonsai. Not all trees conform to the ideal, if they did it would be boring. Every tree is different and sometimes its the unusual characteristics that give a uniqueness and create interest, and thats what you should highlight to make the tree stand out from the crowd of monotonous design.
Keep it going
Andrew
