Post by hugh grant »

Hi
this is my 2nd entry. i found this tree in june this year 2011 chucked out into the bush were someone was rebuilding there fence. i had had my eye on this particular plant for some time but never asked if i could dig it up. i picked it up, it was dry as a bone with no soil. i planted it too see what happens and within 3weeks there were shoots.

species: ligustrum sp.
height: 24cm
origin: collected material
price: $0.00

have removed a few of the low branches to be jined potentially creating a simpler trunk line to make emphases on the trunk.

HG,
Just a question; while looking and zooming in (because I really like your work!), I've become intrigued by the stone at the top of you soil. Is that your Bonsai soil mix or just top decoration?
An second, the pot in the final picture, what type of pot is it and where do you get them from? I have seen them only with Bonsai....
Cheers

hi man
thanks for the kind words, the soil surface is in fact the soil in the whole pot. it is a mix of diatomite and zeolite at a ratio of 3:1. i use this for most of my trees but add pine bark to the mix usually also.
the pot is just a black plastic orchid pot. you can buy them from some nurseries and from specialist orchid growers, you should be able to find them online too id think.
