That really is looking good David. Quality photography too.
One area that you might consider looking to improve is the straight section of trunk that becomes the apex. As it thickens I think that the straightness will become more of an issue. Regardless, it's a lovely, natural looking tree. Well done!

Steven

I agree with Steven...bend it while you can and adjust the position of the branch on the left.
I love your tree!

Hi all,

Just updating this one for the progressive sake of things. Thanks Boics, Steven and Neli for the comments, the area you mentioned Steven will get tweaked in the future and also in time will be covered by foliage mass that will hide any problematic areas. I have found they are not the easiest to bend without snapping, at least with the speed they grow it wouldn't be out of the question to cut back and regrow that section.

Its still growing but it has started to slow down now the temps are getting cooler.

Sometime in spring I plant to repot it into a more suitable pot and till then, I will keep pinching new growth.

Cheers

David

Fantastic progression, Dave. Great photograph too, really sets off the image of a powerful old tree and nice touch with the shadow.
Would like to see this in a shallower pot one day :fc:

It has come along amazingly from where the tree first started :tu: . Well done, you should be very proud of the results :tu2: .

I can't believe how quickly this developed, I need to make some headway on the ones I've got growing.

Looking really good. :tu:

Sorry for the delay in responding, thank you all for your very kind words. I cannot take any credit for this tree, the hard work was done before it came to me and all I have done is merely apply wire to it, trim it and pinch new growth. I'm the benefactor of a great bit of material.

Seeing that we are now almost at the beginning of spring, I thought I would post an update for it. As I expected, growth had slowed down over the cooler months. It fared okay through winter in my shade house and hopefully it will start to kick into gear once it starts to slowly warm up. Here is how it sits today.
Clero 26 Aug 2014.jpg
The plan is sometime in October to repot it into a more suitable pot. To be honest its a long way off where I want it and in about 5 years, hope it has progressed to a stage where I would be comfortable in showing it. The apex needs work, a lot of filling out is needed and some maturity in the branching would be nice too, but I am in no rush.

I will post an update just before the cut off time for a laugh, but this species is fast becoming a favourite of mine.

Cheers

David

David, this has got to be my favourite disqualified bonsai. Very nice work to now. Any plans to set it back a few months and address the pencil straight trunks to the silhouette that Steven noted? Given the rate of growth, it would be a shame to not address that.
Bonsai was meant to keep me away from the computer.
