Species: shimpaku juniper
Height: 35cm (from lowest to highest point of tree)
Source: nursery stock
Cost: $8

i bought this tree as a small starter tree a few years back. in that time all that has been done to it is 1 major chop back of the trunks and root work.
looking forward to working on this one.

I forgot about this tree in the competition and posted this tree in another post. anyway heres the update for the shohin comp

the tree has been fully wired out to its tips, plan is to repot in the spring time into its new angle

Yep, gotta agree with the consensus here Hugh . A Nice tree this will be. i think it is Sargentti though but feel free to howl me down.

from what ive read the juniperus chinenses var. sargentii, or sargents juniper as we call it, is in fact shinpaku, which is the common name for the varient for juniperus chinenses of var. sargentii. If anyone can shed light on this, let us know

but this is what ive read into it to be.

Yes, a pot balanced in another to get the angle. So elegant (like the tree). Will be using that trick.

This tree is really progressing nicely Hugh, you have plenty of time left to get the definition needed to make this one very competitive when the comp winds up next spring.
