So here we are.
Just about total leaf drop this morning so i decided to trim the rest off and here we have the results of a seasons hard driving this ash. 3 full defoliations and wired twice. Now I guess its time to cut back coarse growth and get the wire out again.

Style wise I'm having trouble with the first branch on the main tree.

Hi,

If the coarser branching is still flexible enough to wire then do so; otherwise cut back to lighter growth and wire.

It is best at this stage to keep as many branches as possible to diffuse the new growth and vigour in spring.

The largish, left moving branch on the smaller tree seems more problematic and may need to be removed at some point.

Remember better to leave more now and refine later.

Look down on the trees from above and try and put branches/mass into gaps; but don't do anything that looks too unnatural in terms of turning branches back on themselves etc.

The deciduous silhouette is all important.

Interesting. Mine still has about 80% of its leaves. Thinking I might have to stick it in the fridge I'm itching for it to drop its leaves. Looking forward to seeing yours after its next prune/wire. Going well.
