I have been using a basic mix of Diatomite 40%/Zeolite or sharp 2 and 3mm gravel 20%/Pine Bark Mini nuggets 20%/ and Coco Peat 20%. All of this should be available in Melbourne.

I have found some deciduous tree find this a bit thirsty so I have been adding just 10 or 15% of a fine/small Akadama.

Or consult locals as to what they use and what is available. Ash aren't particularly choosy so most mixes would be OK.

Clean out any root rot back to good wood. A good potting mix should get it growing well and heal the cuts underground.

In Melbourne you can pot now or in the next few weeks, I would think, if you are getting bud swell.

I've just repotted mine. Mix I use is diatomite, mini pine nuggets, pumice, zeolite in a 2:2:1:.5 ratio, all available from Damian bee, or the BNW show this weekend
