I am planning to pot this into a grow pot (as opposed to a show pot) just because I think it needs more re-pots before the root ball will be reduced sufficiently.

How thick is your trunk????

The trunk width is currently between 3 & 4 cm.

Well here is the final posting for this tree. Its been an absolute ball transforming this from a typical nursery stock plant standing 75 cm tall to a bonsai standing at 21 cm tall.
This bonsai needs a bit of time in this pot but eventually it will be "down potted" into something smaller. I do prefer one off Australian made pots so that will be the plan for a year or so from now.
I also have a Juniper in this comp and it would be a real thrill to exhibit this and the Juniper in a traditional shohin way in a few years time.
A few months ago I went to Bonsai by the Harbor and listened to some advice on taking better photos of bonsai and I hope that my photography has improved just a little during this comp.
The first branch needs a bit more refinement and movement and that will happen in the next year or so. I am quite happy with the apex and the tree height to trunk width ratio, and also the movement the bonsai has, its quiet and subtle.

Mate, that is a cranker tree. What a difference. Your right, it does look well propotioned.

Thanks Josh. One of the things I did find was that with the reasonably constant trimming how the leaf size reduced which I was very pleased with.

I'm in, I love a good comp to get the thought train rolling along, and it gives us all a target to get too.

This box is still powering along and is now 23cm tall, only a bit bigger than it was at the end of the last comp. It gets a very regular trim, and sometimes a bit of wire to correct branch direction.

Here is a photo of the back currently.

This bonsai is showing its winter colour (golden leaves) and is need of a trim, but that won't be happening until the weather warms up a bit, probably September.
Between now and then a new pot will be either selected or bought so I will keep you up-dated.

Still seeking a suitable pot for this. I did buy one in Sydney a few months ago but when I put them together there was a "mismatch" so back to the drawing board.
Anyway, here is a photo from very early September and it is still showing its winter colours (even though the winter was mild for us) and will get another trim in the next few weeks.

This did flower in September but I forgot to show you a photo, so there is one following.
I also managed to find a great pot. Its a Penny Davis (Mudlark Pottery) original (as they all are) and shows distinctive changes from one side to the other, both are good but one is more suitable for this bonsai in my opinion.

Love those pots! Looking forward to seeing it potted up.

I have a Japanese box in the ground that was part of the hedge. I cut it back a few months ago and did some carving about a month ago it is looking very healthy again so I may dig soon. Do you think this would be an ok time to dig?

I think digging now up your way would be fine, but may need a little protection from the heat.
