Nice Watto
I find it little strange to see the first branch on the "inside" of the tree.

your thoughts?

Ken

The first branch is on the outside, and really the second branch is also on the outside, however as you look at it there is a small branch that is there to "hide" part of the trunk, the mystery branch.
Not your typical "cookie cutter" bonsai (1,2,3; 1,2,3), but very traditional Japanese style none the less.
Pop down to the Goulburn exhibition this weekend Ken and see it for real.

Thanks Slothman, its had a bit of a journey over the last three years, from 750mm down to 220mm plus a couple of re-pots into smaller pots in a sequence. Just on pots though, the tree and accent pots are both from Penny of Mudlark Pottery, good to support the local talent.

OK, sign me up, I'm in.
This one was started in August 2011 so its good that it has survived and prospered over the years.
Currently it is about 25 cm from top of pot to top of tree.

Here is the update. Winter has been kind to us this year (quite mild for this location) and so this bonsai has been pushing out a little bit of growth. I will leave the growth on for a little while yet.

Hi Watto,

I noticed the growth of this japanese box from Oct 2011 to last post in Aug 2012 - roughly 10 months. Th growth was very good. What was you fertilizer regimen? I have a japanese box wired but still in a pot and it does not seem to be growing fast.

Thanks

Just a bit of an up-date. This one is being allowed to grow on and will be trimmed back in summer.
Although winter was kind to us, spring has only just arrived this week so growth has been a bit slow.

After the November photo shoot I gave it a good trim and style. No other work except for the general water and fertilizer since then. A re-pot in spring is needed so I am looking forward to that.
