Very nice Bodhi ! I did not split my Tanuki or even removed any cambium...I just tied it tight in to the groove, Do You think it will be OK? It is a melaleuka for the competition.

The problem you will have Neli is that the tree will keep growing round instead of flattening out so it will not adhere to the stump or host. it will follow the shape of the host and you will probably have to screw it into place later on. Use stainless or brass screws for this.

I can still do something, but maybe just remove the cambium. Will that be OK? It has shot so nicely scared to damage the branches. The channel into which I put it is deep. more than half the diameter.

The beauty of what we do Neli is that we can leave the one we have created and see what happens and just start another. You can apply different concepts to the new project and compare them both and make a decision on the outcome. Aint Bonsai grand, i have tried both ways and this is the method i use now.

Dan barton's books say to remove the cambium, screw it into the dead wood than apply grafting wax [im guessing to seal the exposed cut] then cable tie the two together, I plan on trying it this spring hopefully.

O.K we have the basic model wired out and i have sat it in a training pot just for aesthetics. Now it is waiting for (1..will it survive and (2..will it fit into the pot i selected. Ahh, the mystery of it all. I did not do much fine wiring as the secondary's are a little weak yet but, in time, i will lay out the foliage pads.

I know Neli, it seems like i never have enough time Anyway, this guy is in its temporary home and i prettied it up for the camera and it can now go into my little glass house to recover ( ) Repot, hopefully next Spring. A couple of photos of the finished product. A little spruce up of the carving in a years time and by then i might even have some branching

I'm assuming you've noticed the embrace of the left trunk on the right? Are we allowed to project human emotions on official competition entries?

Thank you Sir, i appreciate the encouragement.It is a very Ying/Yang type of composition. The elegantly feminine foliage embracing the rough gnarly stump which is also embracing the positive and negative concepts of our wondrous world.

We are over the first hurdle with this composition as it is putting on new growth so it is ALIVE. The next part of the project is to screw the trunks into place with some stainless screws and remove the wire to give it a cleaner look. Exciting stuff.
