Nicely done Kez, good thinking keeping the upper portion for recovery
Do you think letting it grow on as a sacrafice could be worth while, or are you happy with the current thickness of the lower trunk? It's hard to tell from a photo when there's wire and raffia on it.
Looks like it will have a nice nebari on it once the final potting comes round.

well unfortunately this one didn't survive the move to canberra and the run of hot weather we he had down here so it will be withdrawn
