[Mel] Ficus salicifolia/nerifolia
Ficus salicifolia/nerifolia or Willow Leaf Fig (Root)
This is a root cutting that I chucked into a pot around Christmas. I took quite a lot of cuttings from this big ol tree, but nothing seems to have happened until just recently.
I bought the original WIllow leaf fig from Musgrave Road Bonsai back in 1988 or 1989 (for $8.95), and it's since died after a long dry spell in 2010, however some of the cuttings I took over the years have thrived.
I peeled some of the bark and new shoots off the end to stop it getting too chunky, those pieces are still visible.
It measures around 30mm above the top of the pot. Absolutely no idea what I'm going to do with it yet!

Another weird experiment, this time with a ficus.
I'm going to be away at the end of August, so am posting this now, so as to not miss out...

I'll give it a couple of weeks in the cooler area out the back, hopefully it'll power away soon.

Not sure what the problem is, for some reason the willow leaf figs aren't producing strong roots.... never the less, this one has gone on and shot a fair few shoots. I've cut quite a few off, shaved around the join again, and potted it into a Murrumbung Studios pot... (did that because of aforementioned lack of roots.) Hopefully there'll be enough time for it to now settle and grow into shape.

Good luck with those roots, hopefully they get a move on soon!
Always hard to go on a photo but for me I reckon your "back" might make for a pretty convincing "front"... I guess it's nice to have options however you look at it!

Cheers Ryceman3, it is nice to have options re the front. The photos really don't show what I'm seeing... Guess I should take more photos and work from them, eh?

Have been fiddling with this a bit in the last month, potted it up and clipping and growing. Wired the branches again today.

Re: [Mel] Ficus salicifolia/nerifolia
Thanks Thymetraveller! It was looking a little limp by the time I'd finished messing with it this afternoon, hoping I can get a bit more shape into it as it strengthens. I'm really pleased with how it's turning out!

Cheers Sno, I'm really quite chuffed with how quickly it's gone from nothing to *almost* something!
