Got the initial work done on this tree yesterday. I was initially going to wait until it was a bit firmer in the pot, but seeing as all the lower branches I wanted to use were showing signs of being shaded out a bit too much, I decided to get some wire on and open up the branches to sunlight. Only removed shoots that weren't needed. 2 good runners at the apex were wired upright to run free, and the sacrifice branch at the back will be left for the duration of the comp. Maybe late spring/early summer pending health, I will go in and clean out all downward growing tufts and anything in the crotches. For now, its grow time... Need to somehow get some thickness or taper in the next 18 months :palm:

I like the movement too, looking forward to how it develops. Lucky we have a rather warm weather!

Think those in Melbourne should be given an extra three months to make up for the lousy weather :tounge:

Like the movement as well.

Just to rub it in, it was 27 degrees on Thursday. But come on, look at all the autumn colours you guys and gals get to look at :P plus you get a bonsai break each year, my figs are a full time job!

Fair enough, the colours at present are stunning. Look forward to the next 18 months to see how all the trees develop.

The colour I get is mostly brown with a few yellows or orange stripes, then the leaves drop a few days later :palm:
Lots of really good entries this year. I think my greatest challenge will be trying to get this tree into a pot. At this stage I want more thickness in the lower half so the sacrifice branch will be in place until the last minute, if I'm not happy then it will have to stay and I'll be looking at the next comp in the refine section. Good luck to all entries :tu:

I didn't think there had been much growth since the last update but the photos show it beginning to fill out. Plan is to continue growth over the season and think about potting for completion of comp.

Growing along untouched. I think I can cut the 2 top sacrifice branches back and work on filling out the apex. The sacrifice at the back will remain for the rest of the comp, I will probably end up cutting it back hard to look like a branch for the final submission, and then continue growing it out after the comp is over. The lowest branch on the right which was supposed to end up being a jin ended up throwing a bud out, I must eliminate it

Gave this a minor tidy up, still more thinning and wire tweaks to do eventually. Its that time of year again, I must start looking for pots :palm:

It looks great.

The wire isn't biting into the front branch is it.
