[Kez] Azalea sp.

Species: Azalea sp?

Current height: 200mm

Cost: I think around $20

Source: Local garden centre

The reason I bought it initially
IMG_4587 (1024x683).jpg
I wasn't initially going to put 3 trees into the comp but I have had this tree sitting around for around 2 years and thought it was time to do something. I bought this tree due to the nebari and had plans of working it into some sort of broom, so I trunk chopped it and put it in a pot for some reason and have left it to do it's own thing for the last year and a half.

Lets see what I can make of it

Nice trunk and base
Azalea quite quickly develop these nice bases when repotted regularly
I have numerous on my benches under development, but no good for the comp as the upper pats have all been shaped at the same time

Sweet Nebari on this one.
However those leaves aren't happy. Looks like you may have some Lace Bug. A spray of Confidor should fix it up, followed by another spray in two weeks. (remove the open flowers before spraying). Make sure to get under the leaves as the eggs will hatch come Spring. Then Power Feed or similar should see you right.
Cheers

Finally first bit of work done on this one,

Haven't really paid much attention to it as I have been waiting for it to stop flowering. It just kept going and going so I finally just pulled the ones that were open and snipped the remaining buds and got to work
IMG_4950 (1024x683).jpg
Have also given it a hit of confidor about 3 weeks ago but the leaves are still looking ratty as there's no new growth yet. Also needs a re-pot as it is look WAY over-potted after it's styling but I don't wanna push it

Cute as a button.
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

The new pot colour really brings out that nebari! And ohh my am I still jealous haha. Having a good camera certainly helps the situation too.

Cheers,
