This is a stump I collected this summer. It is a little hard to see what it looks like with all of the foilage. The first job will be to hack it back.

After the first photo, I pruned this one hard and wired it. it sprouted back well. I thought it was a good time to dig it up and get it in a pot. Unfortunately, I found the roots were far bigger than I remembered.
After some hacking and chopping I got the woody roots down to a workable size. It is definitely not pretty. This will set the tree back a few months, but it is now on the right path.
