.. and away we go

Australian conditions vary from one extreme to another. What do you do and when do you do it?

.. and away we go

I probably should have taken the hint from my small japanese quince cutting last week

Chaenomeles speciosa 'Apple Blossom'

Spring has apparently arrived at my place :o

Chinese quince and pomegranates are also still clothed but on the move. I'd better get a wriggle on.

I hear you terryb ... barely over half way through winter according to the calender and the emergence of "Spring" growth is undeniable for me too.
Happily I have pretty much got my deciduous repotting covered for this year, I'll be looking at making a start on my pines etc in the coming weeks.
Spring is coming!

I haven’t got the first sign of movement on mine, but I’ve done a few just to get ahead because the Japanese Maple forest will take me ages to play around with to change all
The planting positions on and clean up the branches.

I have a flowering apricot and plum that are about to start flowering, so they think it’s midwinter at least

Even up here in the cool part of Vic I have Chinese elms showing new buds but that's no real cause for excitement. A few of them often start soon after mid winter and can still be root pruned, even with new shoots showing. Most other species are far more sensible and will wait for spring.

Wow, I've not got much new growth at all, but I'm guessing after 2 weeks of 3 - 4 ° at night there might be some movement soon, since the lower temps are now closer to 8 - 10°

Goes out to check the trees....

Most of my Mels haven't stopped growing for "winter" but I have noticed back budding starting to happen now. I also started some Mel seedlings in autumn rather than spring this year and they haven't missed a beat

It's a little strange. I have figs that have also started growing but the ash are still quiet. Ash normally start around the same time as the chinese elms here. Maybe it's a microclimate thing :lost:
