Slater Bugs

Post by Webos »

I have noticed a lot of slater bugs in and around my trees lately. Should I be worried? Are they nasty in any way?

Webos,

have a look at http://blog.ridpest.com.au/
doesn't seem to be a big problem as it feeds mainly on decaying wood
Hope this helps

If they manage to get into your growing pots(which they do) they will eat the new tendrils on your root system. Easily avoided by keeping them of the ground and on a bench with wire on it.

The biggest threat they pose is to block the drainage. They congregate in the area of the holes and deposit the feces. Which is a sludge causing blockage in the mesh that covers the holes. Also as Bohdi states they do eat some fine roots.

Crush some snail pellets and put them under the pots, that stops them from gathering there.

Cheers hope this helps, ;) Pup
