Hey everyone, I've gotten a little serious about bonsai in the past year and my collection is growing. I've got a handful of mature plants that I can wire, trim, etc. and a whole bunch that are nearly there, but I also want to start some from "scratch". So, I want to get some young plants to stick them in the ground and experiment on a little. But getting them from the local nursery or the big green shed is a bit pricey (I want a fair few, I have a lot of spare space).
So, where can I get some cheap seedlings or tubestock?
Online would be preferred, but somewhere within south-east QLD would be awesome (I'm in Toowoomba).
I'm mainly looking for figs. But also trident maples and chinese elms. Can anyone else suggest some fast growing, hardy trees?
Thanks

Community nurseries usually provide plants at good prices. They usually specialise in local indigenous plants but may have some possibilities for bonsai. - https://www.tr.qld.gov.au/facilities-rec ... ty-nursery
Shibui Bonsai can supply bare rooted Trident maple seedlings and Chinese elm rooted cuttings at good prices in winter when they are dormant - see this post - viewtopic.php?f=102&t=20079&hilit=+trid ... +available

I haven't used any of these suppliers, but here are a few I have bookmarked.
These guys are at Woombye:
http://www.australianplantsonline.com.au/contacts/
Brisbane delivery or pick up only:
http://www.buyplantsonline.com.au
Kyogle is in Northern NSW and may be climatically closer to Toowoomba:
http://www.daleysfruit.com.au
If you are prepared to drive, Redland Council's IndigiScapes and Pine Rivers Council's Kumbartcho have lots of native tube stock.
