About 10 years ago I went to a bonsai nursery somewhere in Tassie. I have a feeling it might have been up in the north and was run by a lady. It had an absolutely massive shadehouse and was in quite a green, leafy, foresty kinda place. I cannot remember the name...anyone know this place?
That is Lynne Farrel at Bonsai Workshop or Tasmania Bonsai Center

Lindisfarne Village Garden Centre

A small stock of:
  • Bonsai Pots
  • Bonsai Wire
  • Bonsai Figurines
  • Amgrow Bonsai Soil
  • The Occasional Bonsai
This small Nursery not only stocks the occasional bonsai as I previously stated in this thread.
But today, when looking for possible new trees for my collection,
I found that they now have a small stock of Bonsai Wire, Soil, Figurines and Pots!
The lovely owners know I live nearby, and after contacting them in hopes of acquiring an Acer Platanoides for Bonsai they had kept an eye out and ordered bonsai items in!

Gotta love being a local :D

Seriously? They got them in just because you were enquiring about bonsai, and they know you live close? That's pretty decent of them! :D

Yep!

The people that supply them their succulents and small cacti,
also offer bonsai accessories.

So they figured 'why not' :D

Hi Matt, that is most likely the Native Plants of Tasmania nursery I would think, which also had a few Bonsai that Will moved to the new Bonsai-only nursery, Island Bonsai. Either that... or the one you visited is no longer there, cause there's no other Bonsai nurseries in that area, and Island Bonsai only opened in September 2008 (oh no, I missed it's first birthday! sorry, Will!).

Just checking if there have been any updates regarding the bonsai nurseries in Tasmania? Are Tasmanian Bonsai Centre, Island Bonsai and Bonsai Radcliffe all still open? Have there beenany additions?

During my holiday to Launceston, Tasmania, my wife and I (and very patient sister in law + brother in law + bub) went to visit the Tasmanian Bonsai Centre. Lynne Farrell, the owner, kindly gave us a tour of her nursery and explained the history of her nursery and some of its trees. Lynne has been growing bonsai for several decades and trained in Japan with Susumu Nakamura. She maintains a large collection including some very excellent trees. I was also amazed to see some trees imported from Japan and some very large and impressive Australian native bonsai. There was a variety of interesting bonsai and pre-bonsai available for sale however because I live in the tropics I could not buy any bonsai and had to say :crybye: to them. However I could bring back pots :tu: so after a couple of hours in the nursery and looking at the pot stock I purchased three lovely large Japanese pots and my wife purchased two Japanese shohin pots. I have taken many photos and will ask Lynne if she is happy for me to post pictures of a couple of her trees. If you are going to Launceston the Tasmanian Bonsai Centre is well worth a visit, only a small selection of Lynne's collection is displayed on her website http://bonsai.adbelsham.com/, there is plenty more to see! Thankyou to Lynne, my patient family, and the kind people who suggested the nursery.

Unfortunately I could not get to the other nurseries in Tas which also came well recommended. It sounds like bonsai has a good following in our most southerly state.

Thanks for the report, Ash! Now that I've arrived back in Tassie from my UK adventure, I'll have to make the trek north to check it out myself :)
