The club had a theme this year and it was embellishments, figurines and stories. I think everyone did a wonderful job of attempting to express themselves. The eucalyptus forest was the best by far. :tu:

My second fav was this Eucalyptus tree

My number 1 fav and people's choice winner

:palm: Well that makes sense then. My apologies.... I thought the theme was "Historical roots and new directions for Australian Bonsai"

Thanks Keels and Watto for sharing the pics, some really nice little trees there and a good variety of species. That eucalyptus elata looks great.

I can understand your thoughts Keep Calm and Ramify, I heard the overall display described from "amateurs having a mid life crisis" to "great for kids and might get a few more young people involved". Either way it was different and a discussion point.
While plastic cows and sheep aren't my cup of tea I mostly concentrated on the trees which as I have already said were of very good quality. There was one particular "accessory" though that I really enjoyed - a March fly - photo following.

And one more exhibit that I really enjoyed was this setting of three Eucalyptus all with exfoliating bark, it was either great planning or great timing, but excellent in my opinion.

Does someone by any chance have a better photo of this bonsai, posted earlier by Grant? I love this composition, but the poor resolution of the photo doesn't allow us to really appreciate it. (Sorry, Grant!)

:hooray: Miles better, thanks Watto. I knew I could count on you. :tu2: It's a rather strange group of Kunzeas, with a single leaning one (with a half shari) in front and two others behind that from a V. Unconventional, but so interesting.
I just heard that all the show photos can be seen on the CBS Facebook page. Social media and me: been there done that and spit it out. Many thanks again to you and Keels for showing the best trees off Facebook!

Thanks for all the photos! The Kunzea group posted by Grant and Watto is the highlight for me ... I know it’s sounds absurd but this the type of end-game for that Kunzea group that I was going to enter in the [Natural] comp - but we weren’t sure if it was native - so I’ve continued it stand alone. This is great inspiration.

I love it, it's absolutely original, unconventional and so interesting! Anyway, I have just been told that it won the Award for Artistic Merit! :aussie:

I agree, it is a great setting. However because now I am a potter (very amateur) I think a hand crafted pot by an Aussie potter would complete the work

The not square pot placement on the table is quite unconventional but works well. I wonder if this was forced by the tree roots not allowing it to be planted with its front matching the pots front, or if it is an intentional choice. If it's intentional, it has a high chance of just looking sloppy or lazy, but the artist has pulled it off remarkably well.
Life's too short for boring pots
