The show was really great. Well set up and set out. For me the highlight was catching up with people I hadn’t seen for 5 or 6 years.
And the quality of the trees on display was terrific as well.

Congratulations,

Grant

This native tree entered into the Open got my viewers vote Watto.

I'm not associated with any bonsai club, so i'm not sure who owned what.
It's hard to determine the actual scale & volume from my pics but some of the trees were HUGE!

Did you end up visiting or entering any trees this year Watto?
Does anyone else have a favorite they care to mention / discuss?

I didn’t get to the show but I have seen some of the trees in your photos in person before . That Hawthorn and the Acacia howittii on the rock are really maturing well .
The Acacia is very dramatic and it looks like it has established it self to that environment . It’s obviously well looked after .

Took out First place for "Best Native Bonsai." The planting on the rocky thing is pretty special.

When I saw it at last years Canberra native show the foliage was a lot sparser and from what I was told it had only been on the ‘ rocky thing ‘ for a few months . It’s really come away in twelve months . It got peoples choice then .

The A. howittii got best native in the Bonsai Open as per the 3 judges. It also won peoples choice. It was an amazing piece. As where the others from the same artist. The quality of the trees was exceptional. And the photos don't due justice to the size and detail in some of them.

You can check out my instagram for a couple of short videos of some of the trees. https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca08fdxpmXn/

This watergum (Tristaniopsis laurina) got my vote for People's Choice - simple, bold, elegant, wabi-sabi to the max, even if I was unsure about the front of the pot being the corner.

I was also in total awe of the heath myrtle cascade that won 1st prize in the advanced category - pictured in earlier post above. It was great to see the natives so well represented, including on the podium. I blame the profusion of (awesome) kunzeas on the Treekeepers crew in the Blue Mountains. I was surprised though that the range of species represented was limited. I saw no fruit trees, for example (better in spring maybe?). I've definitely added Acacia howiitti to my shopping list though!
