SA Bonsai Society Show 2021

Post by greg27 »

I don't think this has been posted here yet - COVID has been remarkably well-behaved here lately, and the SA Bonsai Society has it's annual show on this weekend. Sat & Sun, 10am - 3pm. You'll want to get there early to check out the sales area. Last year it was almost completely bare by the end of Saturday, but was then fully restocked on Sunday morning.

See you there :tu:

Lucky SA bonsai people. Bonsai North West managed to get an autumn show in between lockdowns in Melb but all the other annual spring shows have been abandoned in Vic and Canberra.
Have a great weekend everyone :crybye:

The display ay area is coming together and the sales area is filling up. As long as there are no last minute lockdowns we’re on track for a great show!

I’ll take some better pictures tomorrow with a proper camera but in the meantime here’s a sneak preview of the display area:

SA Bonsai Society Show 2021

Post by Beano »

Yay! I got a nice Ash and a 3 trunk plum (not sure if triple trunk or 3 separate trees). The Ash is similar to the one I got last year, but cheaper and better primary branch development. From the same grower called Hugo. I wasn’t expecting to buy another Ash but I couldn’t leave it there. A couple of guys were also looking at it so I had to take it…

My favourite display tree was the white bottle brush. I also liked a cedar I saw. There was also a weeping tree next to the stage that had no label but might have been a peppercorn that I also loved.

It’s good to have such a quality show and sales table available to me. I’d join the club but I have other commitments on Tuesday nights so I can never go to any meetings.

Agreed, one of my favourites I think. Tough choice though; there were some impressive trees on display.

My three favourites: a rulingia hermanniifolia, exactly the type of thing I wanted to achieve with mine before I killed it; a natural-looking eucalyptus; and the acacia howittii.

Also I'm super happy with the euc I purchased, even though I promised myself I wouldn't buy anything. I added one of my own red gums to the sales table this morning to make up for it.

Some photos. Hopefully I haven't mislabeled anything.

I know there was at least one tree that I missed - some trees are up on a stage, which I neglected to take a full shot of, that are hard to photograph individually. Next year I'll sneak in some white cardboard to use as a background.

Yep some hugely impressive trees there, from a technical perspective. For me they feel a little too artificial - my favourite is the one I labelled as #5, which I think is the only one that's not a tanuki. They're definite crowd-pleasers though.

Matt posted a bit of info on this species a while back: viewtopic.php?t=23065
