Tribute to Mary Wilkinson

Post by Gerard »

Mary Ruth Wilkinson after a long battle with illness passed away peacefully last week in Bendigo.
Mary was for many years the 'heart and soul' of the Bendigo Bonsai Club, a highly talented yet humble artist who was always supported by her husband Eric. She was one of the very first to grow Austrlian Natives as bonsai. Her trees were seen at the National Arboretum and at many exhibitions in Victoria

27 leptospermum madidum var. sativum.jpg
The leptospermum maddidum is my favourite.

Thanks Mary,
I will miss you.

Gosh,

I was just thinking of her the other day. So sad, a lovely lady and artist.

I was fortunate enough to visit Mary a few years ago - very gentle and generous, with a quiet streak of steel right down the middle. I thought her trees were very fine, and then it hit me - every single branch that I had seen was graceful, and said something interesting! I've never seen a strike rate like it before or since. As I understood it, she thought to make her trees "natural" - but more interesting! Heightened nature, if you will.

She will be a great loss. My condolences to Eric and the family.

Gavin

Mary sounds like a lovely lady who had a great outlook on life and Bonsai. No doubt she will be missed and thoughts are with Mary’s family and friends.
