By nature, the bonsai community is nostalgic/conservative.

That we enjoy holding a hard copy in our hand is not surprising.

We live in The golden era of world bonsai during an information revolution.

The suggestion that a magazine modeled on past glory may appeal to a new generation is flawed.

Think outside the asymetrical triangle and anything is possible.

Hi,

The AABC has developed a 6 issue per annum magazine with the first addition out soon to subscribers.
It will be available in both hard copy and electronic form, obviously the electronic one will be more economical.
The subscription form is above and taken from the AABC website under "forms".
An example of what the front cover may look like, is on the subscription form.
The cover of the first edition out soon, will be striking and I know this tree,....its massive!
Please consider subscribing!

Also for your information the AABC website is undergoing a revamp and will be going live soon. VERY SOON.
Please keep an eye out as a lot of time have been spent by the President and Secretary.

Cheers

Hi,

By now some of you would have subscribed and received their copy of the first edition of the Bonsai magazine.
Clubs would have received a free copy too.

We would be interested in some feedback from those who have read it.

Regards

I missed the release Kym, maybe the mods can help out with a more prominent message on the forum? I will subscribe shortly. Lucky we get the back issues included in late subscriptions :tu:
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Hi kym,
I subscribed as soon as I heard if it, I was excited when I received my copy, although small as it was, I know it will get bigger and better as time goes, and when more people subscribe, it can't get bigger and better if those don't subscribe just read other peoples copy or the club copy. Next time though could we have something more bonsai related other than how to make fake rocks. Kym if there is something we can do, as bonsai enthusiasts to help than please ask.
If you have not subscribed than please do, we can't have a good Aussie mag without subscribers.

Thank you for your response Mick,

You are absolutely correct when you say that subscriptions will help the Magazine get bigger and better.
Already articles and advertisments have been collected for the next 2 editions.
Starting small and gauging interest, without breaking the bank and hopefully the already growing subscriptions, will keep the magazine alive. This is just early days and hopefully through this site we can gain some insight into people's thoughts with their suggestions, compliments and constructive criticisms.

Thanks again.

This is the time for the members that wanted this, to as they say, to put your money where your mouth is.

We have proved that we can mix it with the big boys, as has, just been said to us here in the West.

Please get behind you home country and support Australian Bonsai, do not knock it.

We are trying very hard to promote Australian Bonsai and the Artists that live and create here.

You can do the same. :aussie: :aussie: :aussie: :worship: :worship: :worship:

I had a quick flick thru the new "aussie bonsai" mag. I thought the articles were ... umm... :reading:
so... I pulled out the Vol 1 Number 1 of "bonsai down under" and realised that the first issue was not as great as the rest of the mags in that series.

Today, I went out and posted off my subscription - for a Hardcopy !!!

It isn't always the first show in a series that is the best, it gets better along the way... but you still go out and buy the full set of dvd's when they come out.

Here's your chance to get behind something that will become an essential on your bookcase... and you can be proud that you helped to kick it off... true aussie style.

For me, I'd like to see local knowledge, trees, and conditions for each of the states, (and intra-states since we are such a vast country), and please keep up the Club Spotlight.

I would envision it including not only natives but growing exotic species in Australian conditions.

Just thoughts at this stage and I'd be interested in what the Ausbonsai community thinks.

Would LOVE that currently get one from Britain.

Hi Kim,
I must admit I was a bit dissapointed, but hope the next issues will improve. There would have to be a big improvement for me to suscribe next year.
I have a few of the old bonsai down under, not the first few issues, and think the ones I have are quite good. Pictures of such people as Grant and Rick in their younger days. So they must have improved as time went by.

Thanks Lynette, appriecate your opinion.
Could you please elaborate or make some suggestions to help us improve your opinion of future editions.

That goes also, for those who liked the Magazine. What did you like best about it, what have you read in it more than once, what would like like to see in it? Do you have something you would like to contribute, for consideration?
Do you know of anyone who would benefit from advertising in the publication?

Don't be shy, but please tell why you like it or don't like it. It is valuable information. :worship:

Hi Kym,
Maybe, include a host club each publication, things other clubs have been upto and pics of their trees on display.
or, offer wire, tools or pots for storys published. What about "how to" sections from the public, the best story at the end of year gets a gift certificate to a bonsai nursary or potters shop. Work shops etc.
I'm starting a club, Southern Highlands Bonsai Group, the first meeting is saturday week 18th june. We have already 15 members. Your welcome to come along to one of the first meetings.
I think you should have a page per issue staring a tree from the National collection.
I don't know, i'm a Handy Man! :palm:
