Using a tree stump as a pot
Looking for advice - I have seen some cool pictures of bonsai planted in hollowed tree stumps as 'pots' and thought I might give this a go. I have found a suitable piece of wood but I assume that it needs to be prepared in some way so that it doesn't just rot away. Has anyone done this sort of thing before? Does anyone have any suggestions of what sort of glaze / laquer / finish etc would preserve the wood and not poison the soil/bonsai?

Interesting thought.
Earls Wood Hardner would be my first choice, and you need to reapply every year or so so the repotting process might take a few days each time

You are not the first to have this idea. I remember seeing other threads on this subject but can't remember the outcome or advice.
