Hi all,

Some amazing pots I have seen recently. I don’t own them or have access to them; just for wow factor.

The koi/carp is very cool and a clever design.
Thanks for the post.

They are wonderful! I also like the carp pot best, but wouldn't say no to either of the other two!

I'm guessing they're all shohin size?

Yes, they are all Shohin. The top one is for sale in Japan for $5,000 $US. Ouch.

Various parts of my body tightened up when I read this - then I had a phase of nausea when one of the parts that tightened up felt like it had been kicked ... anyway - after a bout of choking - I recovered and think I'd like a couple of the top pots (for what it's worth - my favourite my the length of the straight) and I might put a lovely little pink flowering cherry in it ... probably not my little, young $40 numbers ..... probably something a tad older and more worthy.

Thanks for posting the pics. :-)

Would hate to buy that $5000 one and have it smash on the trip home!

I've always wondered what i would choose to plant in a pot painted with a scenery like the first one. Still not really sure how to go about using them properly or well.

Compared to some of the kowatari and nakawatari pots these are quite affordable  . I recall a Japanese Beech i think it was being displayed at the Kokufu a few years back in a pot that was well into the 6 figure range, and i remember Ryan Neil talk about a time he was carrying a pot during his apprenticeship and being told by Kimura along the lines of "don't drop it, it's worth more than a Ferrari".

I find it hard enough to use my 'nice' pots without worry about them being damaged on the benches, let alone anything $5,000+.

If you want to see pots like these used well look no further than any of the big shohin exhibitions around the world.

Mark and Ritta Cooper seem to scoop the pool on a regular basis in Western comps, and their displays nearly always contain a painted container. I shudder to think what their collection would be worth, containers, trees, stands...all outstanding.
