Crumbs!! I was speaking offline to another forum member about prices of things as diverse as rare neofinitia orchids and clam shell ‘go’ stones … as we noted … must be nice to have disposable income at this level! Or indeed, disposable income full stop - given the impacts of the current pandemic on some people.

Spewing I missed the end, my budget was $16,900. I’ve got a nice little cutting that needs a pot about this size to develop a bit further in… :P

What a shame I missed out, I’ve been thinking what I really need is a $16,000 pot in my collection

Oh god I’m bad at sticking to a budget, fortunately I’m even worse at actually buying the things which is a great relief to my bank account.

It’s hard to blow fat stacks on trinkets when you know theres a mortgage demanding attention every month.

Postage would have put you over your budget on this one.
Maybe better bidding on the next one. :P

Here is a new one from Gyozan. It is Beautiful. About $1700AUD. For some reason Gyozan is one of the 'go to' pot makers for the Kokofu. Does anybody know why?

What would you put in it?
I asked my CFO if I could buy it...let's just say I didn't get approval.

Gyouzan is widely regarded as the greatest living bonsai ceramicist, notably for his traditionally styled unglazed ceramics, but he recently has gone quite experimental with glazes and unconventional shapes in his semi retirement.

As for being a 'go to' for Kokufu, I would say he is the most popular current artist but definitely not the most featured potter. Suzuki Syuzan would likely take that honour, but antique Chinese pots dominate them both. I would hazard a guess that why we see so many Gyozans, is that there isn't that many large antique chinese pots in the 70cm+ range left of a quality required for Kokufu, and the ones that are left would be 10-100x the price of the pot you showed. Some would cost more than that just to hire for Kokufu. Trees are always growing bigger, probably requiring a bigger pot every decade or two, sadly pots neither grow bigger or reproduce, hence the need to sometimes commission pots from someone still producing ware.

Well I survived Kirky and I just got approval to buy a new chainsaw tomorrow. Ironically the chainsaw will cost about the same as that beautiful pot but won't last as long...but then again the pot wouldn't do a fantastic job at cutting firewood.
