I never realised moss was a form of art till I found this forum haha
Those pictures of the floors covered in moss remind me of a resort I stayed in last time the missus and I went to Busselton.
Once you stepped off the pattio out the back of our room, the whole floor was covered in moss. I loved the feeling of walking barefoot on it.

I've been reading up on accent plants, and found this thread about moss.

If you're ever interested in seeing hundreds or even thousands of different types of moss, Tasmania's Cradle Mountain National Park is a great place to visit. This shot was taken a few steps away from the tavern, on the walk up to the King Billy track.

We go every year to celebrate the fagus changing colour, and it's very inspiring to see the tree shapes and autumn colours, for a sub tropical dweller!

We've been 4 x to tassie and each time we pick a different area to explore and we've been in different season's , but we always go to cradle mountain for a week at least. There's just something about the place. The fagus are one of my favorite trees , tried twice to grow them from seed but failed It amazes me how few people have gone to tassie

Similarly, we've visited all parts too, but we stay in Cradle Mtn for the turning of the fagus in April.

I doubt you'll have any luck growing one if you're not in a highland area, which is a shame, because the tortured trunks and branches would make a fabulous bonsai, and the colours in the foliage are outstanding!

Oh well... (I'm just glad I've had a chance to see them, with the way things are going they may be gone because of fires and drought.)

oh yeah.

Luckily that's not fagus land, but it is still fragile. I've some friends who insist the cable car will be the saving of the area, and some who say it'll make it worse....

hadn't heard of the cable car ,googled it , looks pretty 21st century , not sure which way to fall . It'll stop vehicle traffic but then how do you stop at snake hill or go to visit waldheim etc . suppose you'll just have to walk. I'm not so keen on the resorts and commercialising , but then I guess that's progress as you said glad to have seen it before all the bling

I believe there'll be limited vehicle traffic allowed also, but you'll have to be inside the park before 9 to have a chance...

Anyway, we need to get down there and enjoy it while we can.

Hey guys , this is an interesting and funny post ... mossiker ... I first read it as your wife calls you a "mosslicker" funny ... anyway good read.
I have quite a bit some grows freely on my tress and it appears as the general way that older trees with established bases grow it well .
Trees that like wet feet also .
I am no expert but reading a bit on websites appears that not all moss enjoy being wet there are some that will do well in a drier environment. ... .
On a good note but for anyone trying to grow it .... beer yep beer it every now and then , the yeast in beer helps it grow extremely well .
If you want to cultivate it and you have an.old.blender try getting moss dry it out a bit till its almost fully dry .
Some very fine soil or silt pour some beer in and blend it .
Pour it out on a tray and keep it in a cool damp place . Apparantly bam off it goes .
(Just like my head if I used our blender at home haha ) .

Ive used a few different varieties here . Swampys are good for moss .
Another thing I have heard is never cover the entire surface area of the pot , as it restricts oxygen exchange.
