Oh how I like moss

Here is an example of why I like Moss.

First pic is un-watered for 2 weeks, the second is 2 minutes after watering....

For all those that swear their moss goes green straight after rain.... Your not crazy!!

This little bowl sits next to me all day every day, at my computer. It may not be a bonsai, but it has curves, undulations, cracks, crevices, boundaries and boarders.

This is not a moss you can pickup and put in your pot, it only survives if it is nourished by a rotting timber. Under the surface of green mat, it has rotting redgum to feed off.
One the timber is gone it will die, if I do not sustain it with more. So fical and so beautiful.

Very nice, indeed.

Bit of a moss and lichen-a-holic myself; what kind of a container do you keep these in?

I have a number of black cypress and yellow box peices with their crusting of moss and lichen resting in a round glass fish bowl on damp spagnum. The bowl provides great humidity, but I'm looking for something else along that line (but not as deep) as a more long term home. They share the bowl with a maidenhair fern which the bowl depth suits. I like the idea of being able to have it on display inside and will keep looking.

Jan.
