My Bonsai area and Pond Heart Break

Post by Jag01 »

Couple of year ago I decided to re-do my back yard and this is how it turned out.

Just before Christmas disaster struck,

hose leading to new filter box popped off the filter box and dropped to the ground beside the pond. The new 17,000 litre per hour pump then went about emptying the pond. Unfortunately the force of the water exiting the hose managed to dig away soil beside the pond and allow the water to drain into the hole under the pond. This saturated the soil and allowed the pond border rocks to collapse and fall into the pond. By the time I found the this had all happened, the pond liner was floating on the water in the hole below it. The pond was completely empty and all of the Koi were beached and dead.

Pond the Sequal

Post by Jag01 »

Well no use crying over spilt milk,

only one thing to do, rebuild it!

Anyhow, after 2 weeks of solid work over Christmas and New year (40+ heat wave period) this is the result.

The most impressive backyard I have ever seen. Thanks for sharing, Jag! Sorry that you had to rebuild but what choice did you have?

Mate, big effort  I bet it is great to wander around in with coldie in hand!
I guess that a pond like that would attract the same regulations fence wise ,that a pool would? :) ....Dog.

THanks for the kind words guys.

Yes the pond is now back up and running again. I managed to save a good number of the pond plants, lilly's, pennywort and various grasses so I have re-potted and planted those all again. I have just finished re-building the water fall today so am currently waiting for a week or so prior to running any water through it. Once I have the water fall running I will trim off the excess pond liner from the surrounds, spread some mulch and I will then post some more pics. I am slowly re-stocking with Koi.

I will post some pics of some of trees shortly. Unfortunately my two favourite (and best trees) were stolen a few months ago (that was actually the subject of my very first post on this forum) so the rest are all works in progress. Yes regulations in regards to ponds are the same as for pools here in Perth. Fortunately the pond is only 299mm deep ;)

Cheers,

Jeff

Well despite the incredibly hot weather we have had here in Perth the repairs continue and we are slowly getting back to where we started.

Good on ya Jeff.

Looks like a job really well done..
Oh how I'd love to have such a space at my abode..
Very very jealous.
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful
