Autumn In Japan Part 3

Post by SLR5000 »

Monday
It’s Day One of our autumn bonsai tour with Nanxi Chen & Bjorn Bjorholm. Bjorn is a well known bonsai artist and studied in Japan and now travels the world demonstrating. Bjorn still works with the same bonsai nursery where he did his apprenticeship under Fujikawa-san

We have 5 other bonsai enthusists from the USA with us and, at present, are based in Osaka. Today we travelled back to Kyoto to visit two temples - it was an interesting experience to be so packed into the train at peak hour!!

We were due to head to the 2016 Taikan Ten (one of the best bonsai shows in Japan), but we had to change the days around because of forecast rain, so we did the gardens today instead.

We lived in Canberra for 23 years and thought the autumns there were great, but over here you have to see it to believe it. The maple and other deciduous tree colours are magnificent.

The first Temple we visited was the Byodoin Temple which contains the oldest temple structure dating back many centuries.

Tuesday
It’s Tuesday, and we have spent the day at Taikan Ten. What a sight to see so many wonderful trees, along with a substantial vendor market, all indoors. If only we could bring some of those trees home with us, as the prices were very reasonable and the quality outstanding. Never mind, we found some nice pots, stands and even some tools to fill up our suitcase.
We’ll post photos of this event shortly.

Enjoy these autunm photos.

Some lovely shots SLR500 :) Amazing how the colours have changed since our trip there earlier this year in April.

Cheers,
Hal.

I visited a harvest festival on last autumn during my business visit. Food, music, dances... it was unforgettable!
