greg27 wrote: December 19th, 2019, 12:49 pm Sweet. I'll play it relatively safe and throw in my collected jacaranda (from https://www.ausbonsai.com.au/forum/view ... 29&t=27785), mostly because it seems like it'll be a quick grower and will take whatever amateurish things I throw at it! I grew up with two very large jacarandas in my back yard and have always been a fan of these trees.

In terms of future direction, I'm not 100% certain - if I can get anything half as good as Ken's (https://www.ausbonsai.com.au/forum/view ... 129&t=5621) I'll be pretty stoked, but maybe something a little taller - I'm not sure. For now I'll slip it into a wider pot, thin out the new growth a little bit and see what it does. I'm thinking the second photo below will be the front as that lets you see more of the twist in the trunk.
I like the movement in your trunk @greg27. It comes from nice and low on the base which is handy. I don't know much about Jacaranda, but if you can get your head around how to manage/reduce the compound leaves I think this has a lot of potential. Nice ...

Are we just posting out trees directly into this thread for their beginning shot? I don’t want to post in the wrong place and be disqualified, totally something I would do!

I was actually thinking a fresh thread with simply the rules and entries could be a good idea. Save having to scroll through random posts to find the entries.

I think for simplicity, stick to this thread ... but you're right, perhaps from this point on please just entries for the comp or any relevant questions in relation to the comp itself to keep things as compact as possible.

3 years between updates? Wow, that is a long dormancy.
Interesting idea.

Hi All,
Just as a "heads up" Ken is going to create a separate thread just for entries into this comp for me. If you are looking to post an entry perhaps wait until that thread is live. If you have already posted to this thread do not panic, he will transfer your entry across to the new "entries" thread.
This thread will remain live in case there are questions/concerns etc.. and for any admin related to the comp.
Hope that doesn't confuse people too much ... it should make for a clearer thread just for the entries inh the end.
Many thanks Ken ... you're a champion! :)

Another reason Ken is a champion is that in conjunction with whatever else gets rustled up, he has offered to put up a bag of akadama (incl. delivery!!!) as part of the prize, very much appreciated! :worship:

...now it's getting serious!

Agree, I Missed the cut too and happy to have mine included in the final finish if that is granted, but if not i will still compete and show mine at the end.
I may not be up for a prize but the comp is the main driver not the rewards that may be on offer
