This is really looking the goods, Ryceman, especially with that pot.
Most of my round pots have feet of some sort, so they have a definite front on them. You can keep tweaking yours for as long as you like!
Matt.

Hi Ryan
This is looking really good.
I really want to put mine into a bonsai pot too and give it some time to settle before October. But I don't have a suitable pot.
Better start looking ...

October update for this tree ... nothing too major in terms of work done, just building on what is there.

I love your tree so much, it's inspired me to look into the future for it. Sorry if you hate it...

This bonsai has turned out really nice. Love the shape and the branching.

Wow… thanks for taking the time to create that image Mel… very much appreciated! I have a few ideas going forward, some involve using slightly different angles to the current “front” but I do like how you found another “tree within” with this view. Nice!melbrackstone wrote: ↑October 22nd, 2021, 9:15 pm I love your tree so much, it's inspired me to look into the future for it. Sorry if you hate it...
Native (Nat) Comp_02.jpg

Below is another (less dramatic probably) idea I was throwing out there to myself using this front… I also looked at removing all the top left and having the tree pretty much flow totally to the right.
I’ll keep thinking!

lol, yours is much more elegant than my view R3. I'm looking forward to seeing it evolve!

Re: [Natural] Melaleuca Ericifolia - Ryceman3
Latest update on this tree since I gave it a clean up and put some wire on it over the weekend.
With about a month to go in this comp, it might end up being my last update depending upon what happens with new growth over the next month. Things have really cooled off in the last week or so weather wise, so I'm not expecting a big leap from this point.
It's been a fun tree to work on as part of the competition. There is still a bit to go in terms of refinement, but I think it is filling in quite nicely and I'm very satisfied with the development since the first post.

Re: [Natural] Melaleuca Ericifolia - Ryceman3
... and because I had the backdrop/setup already done, I took some final photos of this entry as well today before I finished up.
I like this tree, I think it looks much better in real life than through the lens, but I did my best to show it off as best as I could!
I'll be looking to fill out the foliage mass in the back and probably reducing it/adding deadwood in the front to create a better sense of age and increase the authenticity with any luck.

I like the way you've started to get that flow to the right.

Love this Ryan. Reminds me very strongly of the old Mels I see around here. They usually have only slight movement in their trunks and get more and more movement out onto the branches and end up very twisty. Well done

Yes, I love this too. Our influences are so varied - like their natural habit - I can’t help but be influenced by the twisting, turning, gnarly trunks on the Mornington peninsula … they almost worm across the ground and through the dunes … influenced by the sea winds and perhaps reflecting their roots underneath the sand, search for water … and yet others grow almost bolt upright or at an angle - somehow in a rush to find the sun.
Great trees in the wild and as bonsai.
