I'm not sure what species of Melaleuca this is. Happy for any suggestions.

Seed collected and sown in 2016. Repotted in September 2017 and has remained in this small grow bag ever since.

I'm planning to repot in the next week or two and place in a larger pot to grow.

Hello terryb,

This is a great piece of material to work with, however the 1st pic shows a secondary trunk coming out of the pot.

You would need to show that the point at which the two trunks meet isn't larger than 1cm as this may exceed the 1cm if its thicker at that point, sorry.
If it was 1 trunk it would be fine, but as it shows the 2nd trunk coming out lower, you would need to show it isn't a clump or that the join and actual base isn't larger than 1cm.
I am sorry to be pedantic, but it needs to be fair playing field for everyone

Sorry I missed this post

The first photo is a bit deceptive because of the angle the tree was growing and the flexible top of the small grow bag. The secondary trunk you mention is in fact the first branch that is visible on the right of my second photo, just above the toothpick holding my scale. The branch is fairly low, which is why I chose this tree over a couple of others I have.
The second photo is taken exactly as you have drawn, with the scale at the base just above the first root, which is on the left just above the ”circle” on the scale.

Does that address your concerns? I have since repotted but can take additional photos if you would like.

When I repotted this tree, most of the roots were only on one side so it required some propping to keep it upright. I tried to add a few bends with wire at the same time but ended up snapping a few branches. I have since only wired a little movement into the new soft shoots. Just letting grow at present.

Thanks Rory and KCaR. We've been having warmer than average temperatures this month, which has probably helped keep the growth going.

Has put on more foliage since the April update but not much trunk thickening compared to my other entries. I suspect this is Melaleuca lanceolata

I have done nothing to this tree except allowed it to grow and it is now very full. As mentioned by others, M. lanceolata is quite slow to thicken.

That looks like it'll be fun to play with ... a bit of time and good growth has resulted in lots of options. It's already looking good and you haven't touched it! I agree M. Lanceolata can be a bit slow to thicken but I reckon this has developed pretty nicely in the timeframe.
