The final photos for this tree

Its been quite a pleasure to work with this tree which self seeded in another pot
Thickened quite quickly and very vigorous
I think I attained a natural look to the tree
With many eucalyptus in my area its easy to just look up and be inspired
In terms of maintenance clip and grow seems a very simple method. after pinching or pruning new shoots seem to appear after 2 or 3 weeks
The roots however seem to be an enigma for myself in particular with the exact time to work them
I have murdered a few eucs in my time through reducing roots. Im now of the belief that it should be done at least once a season
Although looking through the photos it seems the tree has been in 3 pots and root work done only once

Looks great mate - I like the Nebari spread

I like all of it.
The tree, the pot … the tape measure, it’s all good!
One more update though … April 2022 is now the cut off so looking forward to seeing it then.

A wonderful effort so far mate.

There has been some development in regards to the lower branch on the right side
Its dead






Looks a little sparse at present but my hope is that the top remains
There are new shoots so im hopeful

What happened?
Is it neglect / pests ?

Just the eucalyptus way i think

In your picture on your older leaves, that’s a lot of chewed leaf though.

I get every pest under the sun eating my Euc leaves.
But I’ve noticed it greatly varies depends on the species.
Some are absolutely savaged by grasshoppers and such, while others are left more alone.
I now prioritize the ones that are left more alone.

I also don’t reduce foliage as much as I would with other genus…mainly to ensure it stays healthy and to outpace the rate of getting eaten.

I've found that my Eucs like plenty of root space in the pot, otherwise they sulk/drop branches/die/say rude things to me. The pot is great, but a bit more room might keep the tree happier.

Also if you clip harder on the top main trunk line and easier on the side branches it helps balance the tendency of the apical growth and lessens die back on lower branches. Really nice pot I’ve not had much success in the shallower pots. Not sure if they dry out too fast?
