After the demise of my Eucalyptus scopari, I'm a bit short of time before entries close and won't make it to a nursery to get more stock, so I'm going to try to germinate some Acacia seeds I have left over from a previous (non-bonsai) project. Unfortunately they all got a bit mixed into one bag, so it's a bit of a lucky dip - I know there's 3 species; Acacia dealbata, A. spectabilis & A. cardiophylla, but I won't know which one I've got until I have some mature growth, flowers & maybe seed pods

Seed was provided by members of the ANPSA Acacia study group at no cost.
@Rory, I'm hoping it's OK to try and germinate a small handful of seeds and then pick one individual a bit later...

April 2019 Update

Had a large number of the seeds germinate (first ones popped up a couple of days post sowing) so in late February I selected what looked to be the strongest 15 seedlings for potting on. Each seedling was pricked out, had a root trim to encourage lateral root growth and then potted up into an individual pot with Osmocote native potting mix. From there it's been sunshine, water & fertiliser only.

October 2019 Update

Nothing much to report, they are slowly growing ... not so much over the colder weather though

Going to have to withdraw this one

I picked the strongest 2 and planted in the garden to try and get some size to them, that sort of worked (lots of height , not so much girth) but highly doubt that I'll be able to dig them after 12 months and even if I could the first couple of feet are now bare and have zero confidence in them back budding

Oh well, they make a nice addition to the garden
