Parvifolia x Sno.... I’m looking forward to this combination, I’ll enjoy watching the updates.

Thanks Rory . This tree was bare rooted completely around the time of the original post . The roots were spread out and wired indivusualy to the base of a ' nursery flat ' ( or seedling tray ) the top was cut back a little . It sulked for a couple of weeks while it was recovering on a gravel bed with gradually increasing morning sun . At the time we had that aggressive summer thing happening .
After it recovered it went into full sun on a gravel bed . The roots have started to escape into the gravel bed since . It had some wire put on it at the beginning but I intend to grow it out for the comp using the top as a sacrifice while I train a lower branch to be the final tree . I intend to leave it in the nursery flat for the duration of the comp to try and not slow its growth down , it has to come off the gavel bed soon before it freezes and it shuts down for the winter .

This was sheltered for the winter but is now back out in full sun on a gravel bed . The roots that were escaping in autumn were cut off and today I noticed that they are escaping again .

Hi R3 the gravel beds work a treat , they actually save space because I can grow them in a smaller container and let the roots run over summer . They work well with ‘pond pots ‘ . I can’t use them over winter because they freeze solid and the trees don’t like that .

This tree is bulking up ,still needs more girth so I’ll let it run another year .

This photo makes me wish I'd made the comp 5 years. I'll have to ask Steven if we can do a follow up 3 year refine comp for this Natural comp, as that needs more time, beautiful start there Sno.

Nice progression.

I started one for this comp although I have not updated. I have trouble with curl grubs and leaf beetle larva and as a result have not put on as much wood as yours.

Yours is looking to be a good start.

Tree selection is all part of the comp so it’s all fair in love and war . At the time of the start of this comp these trees were all I had lying around and in the middle of a drought with water becoming an issue I didn’t want to get any more trees ( that’s my excuse anyway ) . Hopefully all these trees in the comp will be updated long after this comp has finished .

Ouch . I was hoping to quietly exit , because due to my slackness this summer of getting any of my bonsai goals accomplished these trees look exactly like my last update . Thanks Rory . I will post photos of my negligence tomorrow .

As you can see there has been no change which to me is quite interesting in itself .
