[A Forest Tale] Clerodendrum heterophyllum

Post by melbrackstone »

I cut this long piece off a Clero that wasn't looking the way I wanted it to do....back in Dec 2019. I cut and cracked it to give it more shape too, because it was a very long straight piece.

After scraping the bottom of the branch in places I set it into a shallow tray with a bit of mix covering the whole lot. It started to shoot pretty quickly, and has some roots growing out the bottom already! On Monday I wired the branches into more interesting shapes..

Cheers Mel, this will be interesting for sure. I had to look it up and noted a lovely example here https://www.ausbonsai.com.au/forum/view ... 30&t=23717.

Looks like a fast-growing group you've got going here Mel! and interest in the raft too.
Tending bonsai teaches me patience.

It's a perfect bonsai tree Mark, grows like crazy, so much so it's a weed here in Qld. The bark is very attractive, and thickens up nicely.

I am looking forward to seeing how this goes as a raft. Thanks for the push. :)

Good one Mel. I have a clero which I took the top and another branch off from and just stuck them in pots after removing small branches and all leaves. They produced buds immediately and had leaves within 2 weeks. Now, after a couple of months there are already white root tips showing through the drainholes of the pots. They are incredibly fast growers.
Cheers, Frank.
