Too darn hot for kiln work.

I have managed to get 1 firing in .but with the weather we are getting it puts a strain on the kiln. electric kilns need new coils too often.
I was thinking about how we are considered hobbyists here. I added things up , boy this is an expensive HOBBY.
I could buy some pretty good looking bonsai instead. Oh well, fortunately I make other things as well.

Great pots-was going to choose a favourite but I love them all!
Surely you could sell these and still get your nice bonsai? They're certainly of saleable quality!

I just fired mine today... I couldn't stay in the Shed to long when I was checking on it with the temps today. Looking forward to seeing the results tomorrow morning!

Why do you say it puts a strain on electric kilns?

Very nice work by the way. Your lines a lovely. Excluding the first photo - Are you hand building these or slip casting?

electric kiln can play havoc when power usage is high , such as now . so when aircons are on the power grid fluctuates it can cause programs to trip .
also as I recently found a 10.3 hour firing turned to 13 hours because of this.
coils in kiln can also degrade faster , not that their life span is much anyway. Replacing in less than a year.

Thanks for your reply. 1year for replacment coils seems like a short life span. You must fire a lot!

Bod ,
my kiln size is not going to be suitable for that size pot , my specialty is really smaller detailed ceramic art.
I would have to get it fired elsewhere and outside firing is expensive and moving a piece that size in greenware is risky.
I know there is a Daylesford potters group , perhaps you should inquire there.

Thanks Joan, yes we have a group here but they sit on their hands a little. One of my neighbours (Petrus Spronk) has said we could collaborate but i know he is quite famous? and could cost quite a lot. We will see.
