G,day guys now that our bottlebrush ( well mine have ) finished flowering, and set seed it is time to prune them for next seasons flower's.
Remember bottlebrush flower on new wood so the more new wood the more flower's. Now is the time for the hard cut back, then, in late March early April, prune to shape for the new flowers, then just tip prune growth that is too adventurous.
Here are a couple I did today.
Cheers Pup

Hi Pup thanks for sharing. From your experience do they only flower once a year ? And yours have finished flowering now ? I hve one that has finished and one that has just started - anything that changes the time it flowers ?

The one at the collection is yet to open its flowers and it may still be a week or two yet.
We had to trim out some new growth(Those without flowers) as it was getting beyond the flowers.

Re: Bottle Brush Pruning refresher
Tony,
they do spot flower but not that often. As for one finishing and one starting. Our seasons have been all over the place this year. Mine started and finished earlier than before.
Usually it will still be in flower at this time. As you can see by Grants response in Canberra it has not been sunny or warm enough.
So to answer I cannot, because things have been different this year, even in the West long hot dry winter and autumn.
Cheers Pup

Re: Bottle Brush Pruning refresher
Thanks pup for another helpful post
I just started an air-layer today on one, We have a couple, one 20 foot...well 20 foot now, after dad took off about 20 branches a couple weeks a go, which would have been perfect to use D:
On another young one though, i picked a branch about 3 inches in circumference, hopefully it takes
Soaked spahgum moss for the night, cut away the bark and cabium etc, wrapped it tightly in hard plastic, then again in glad wrap and sealed and pressed shut with grafting tape and wire.
now with the growth of the tree, should i cut the foliage back and shape or let it grow?
