My first Bonsai. Went looking on a mates property and found this on a rock ledge overlooking the river. Ball at base 110mm X 140mm, trunk on horizontal section 175mm in girth, Trunk from ball to bend is 390mm. Tree stands at 1.3m. Made a growing box yesterday after reading the forums. The tree fits perfectly. Took some pics for identification and some thoughts on the tree.

Hey Panda,

Well, what can I say, other than if this is your first tree, you are doing well and have a potentially bright future ahead of you in bonsai!

It is a bit difficult to see what is going on where the trunk enters the ground, but you certainly have an eye for interesting trees. Finding a planting angle for this will be interesting, so try looking at it from a whole bunch of different angles as well. I see a potential semicascade in it. Now however, you have time to go find some more material as this one will need a year or two just to settle in and find its feet before you do too much on it.

Welcome to bonsai and to Ausbonsai, and long may your interest last! :tu:

Cheers,

Andrew

Thanks Andrew for the great encouragement, yeah I would like to do something with the tree, but PATIENCE, I hear u say. I dont want it to die , so it gets left alone to do it's thing.

Regards Steve
I will post some pics when something new happens....
