Australia Day little adventure for a lunch and beer and wine with the wife and little wander around a historical township with a rare as in old nursery still around, unfortunately you do not see these days.

So off for a look, the nurseryman asked can I help you, yep old stuff unsalable/pot bound ect, his response was do you do Bonsai any chance and with a smile yes I do, lovely guy showed me this very, very pot bound tree for a bargain $10.

So with a little bit more wobble in the trunk and bringing the top to you with its slow lean taper, we would remove the weak spoke wheel branches and tip the tree out on all growing points, if the tree responds then we wire the silhouette in .....no good wasting time and wire.

Fast forward 6 weeks our tree has responded, just waiting for the growth to harden off, then wire the branches in.

This is good way if you like to fast track a tree.

So with a little dig for best nabari angle and lucky here with everything lining up, a technique to cause little as disturbance as possible to the surface roots on most sides then just cutting straight across, is cut underneath and gently pull wide to protect all the outside live stuff to get this over the line, diagram will explain better.

I find the new growth is very spectacular Mel, its full name Acmena Smithii 'Forest Flame' and having this in the temperate zone with my other garden lilly pillies and there growth responses, I don t expect it to rest much, so will forward to its red growth quite frequently....maybe something for you up there in the sub tropics Mel

I see it used alot for hedges and windbreaks in my area.

cheers Anthony

lol....sorry. I don't have the particular one you mentioned, but there are some nice sub tropical varieties that have caught my eye over the years. :) I have one called Syzygium Gold Coast I think it's called, with similar new growth colours. :)

Hi guys our new growth would harden off, so with some time today I took the trunk wire off as this has set and wired the branches to silhouette and fortunate to spring a nice shoot low that could be handy....again another pinch out of growing tips to tighten more as this stuff dosen t really stay still...cheers

Light trim again, finding some nice inner growth from the trim before, thinned out a coupled unwanted branches, knocked down the height with some nice shoots to push on from there,

Brought the sub trunk/branch in close at the bottom and out, I think it needs to it to give some substance and distract the viewer...the tree threw some adventurous growth low, so I might run with it and see where we go there..we will keep the nebari buried in the trainer pot for now, needs alot help there, so far steady :? hmmm
