Casuarina

Post by Pup »

Casuarina cunninghamiana This group was collected from an abandon nursery. About6 years ago. It is almost as is except I chopped some of the tops!!to get it in the car!!. I should have laid it down. I have just kept it pruned back. I have now decided to get serious with it. So to day I re potted it and made a slight change in the positions. As you can see it is healthy and growing vigorously. The tallest tree is 660mms the pot is 550 mms . Now we have to just be patient wait awhile and see what happens. Who knows I might keep or move it on. Pup

WoW!!! That looks fantastic Pup - almost like something out of the desert. I am sure it will be even better once their is some branch ramification or are you going to create cloud pads on the branches?

Yours in Bonsai

The medium I use is crushed granite and coco peat ( aka the propagation post ) plus now Akadama.
Before we could get Akadama I use a quality potting mix I use two parts granite one coco peat one part Akadama as I said before it was the top quality potting mix.
Jon I am hoping to develop more branches and then a loose pad effect not too tight should take a couple a years give or take a few.

Great Group Pup.
I thought you were finished with groups?

I have a Casurina I collected 2 years ago and it has been growing nicely with a couple of trunk chops, but not this year. It might do it good to be repotted if the time is right. Can you explain what I need to know about repotting Casurina.
Thanks Kindly
Brett

Hi soltan, why not post a picture of it and perhaps a bit of a story about how you collected it in our Yamadori section?

No not finished with groups just have 6 of them do not need any more.
I treat Casuarina as I would junipers they are very hardy. If your one has been growing well, but has slowed down I would say it is due for a re pot it is probably root bound.

Fantastic setting Is it a group or raft. I rescued some small ones that had been trampled by bush bikes. they are sticks. One, I am training as a raft but is very small.

:gday: , i have been asked for an update, short notice so here's a couple of pics taken 10 mins ago, :) . if anyone wants i can take some more in the daylight.
I have started to thin out the foliage and wire some branches, aswell as reducing the height of a couple of the trees,
