Casuarina lives again!

Don’t know if this one belongs in Natives or Inspiration from Nature…

We spotted this remarkable Casuarina stump while we were clearing timber/branches off a fence line after a recent snowfall (hard to remember with today's sunshine and high 20's temps).

Some time ago (check the silver grey of the sawn timber) this stump's top had fallen over the fence in a high wind and it was sawn off at the time to separate it completely. We were very surprised to see what looks to be new foliage emerging after so long and surprised to see that it had the resources to do so in such dry times.

i have seen this happen also. at my uncle inlaws house he cut one down to build a shed, to get certain materials in. and it was a couple of years but the casuarina that was cutdown outside the shed had sprouted new growth and is now quite a solid little bush... i have been trying to talk him into letting me dig it

I dug one, sat for about 9 months. We had to move so I was binning dead stuff. I pulled it out and saw white roots. soaked it in seasol and 4 months later it was a live.

This pic gives me hope
I pruned mine in August when it was quite warm and it has sat sulking ever since. The needles have all turned yellow and as yet no sign of new growth If it doesn't start moving it may soon it may find a special place in the otto for Christmas

D'ont give up too soon - it was a LONG time before this stump shot. Maybe like Asus101 you should check for healthy roots before tossing it,
