Species ID? NSW Central Coast

Post by Kent LakeMac »

Hey, I haven't had any luck trying to ID this species. It's a shrub under 1m tall that lives in the bush near my place, Lake Macquarie NSW. Colour varies between light green as seen in these photos (when growing in shady conditions?) to very dark green when growing on the roadside where it's more exposed. Gnarly, dark trunk and branches, seems to be quite strong and inflexible. Leaves pointed ovals with a needle tip. Weird flower options - some look more like leaves, others growing straight from the branches. I'm tempted to go yamadori, but this is illegal. If I knew the species I could search for native suppliers who might have it. So please, help - lead me not into temptation!
