Banksia Integrifolia 01

Post by Jarad »

And I have finally transitioned into the realm of banksias. Here's a few photo's of a little guy I picked up and lopped the top off of a few weekends ago.

This guy will most likely be the first of many!

I don't trust Bonsai, they are a little shady.

Nice size to start with
Do you plan for the branch to take over the trunk?
Are you expecting the trunk to rot? Or do you leave such a long over cut to make a jin?

Cheers mate!

The leader going up will be part of the continuation of the trunk, but will be cut back again in a few years to create taper. And then again and again.

I was allowing for a bit of die back after the chop, which I'll remove at a later date.

I don't think jin are really appropriate for banksias as they don't have them in the wild, the dead branches usually just rot and fall off.
