Another update,

After Ryan Neil's critique on this tree I obviously had some work to do. Their were 2 points which needed addressing. 1 was that their were more than 2 branches originating from the same major junction. 2 was the lack of movement in the branches.
Today I addressed the first point and reduced the junctions down to 2. Unfortunately the branches are very hard to bend and I have crack several in the attempt. As this is a young Bonsai time and trimming over the years will induce character.

Regards,

Peter

Hi Peter,
Very nice job. I think you will end up with a cracker tree mate. :tu2:

Did you have to seal any of the branches after cracking?

Hi Ray,

I haven't sealed any cuts or breaks on this tree. I find that because it such a vigorous tree it repairs quickly.

Peter

Hi Peter,
Firstly let me that is an awesome tree. Amazing shape and will continue to improve with time. Would you mind sharing your fertiliser regime for this tree. I'm starting to get into banksias but still learning how to treat them right. I have several like your first photo just cut off. Also how long after cutting them back hard like that should I wait before potting up into larger grow boxes? Thanks for any advise.

Josh.

Josh,

I am not the best when it comes to fertilizing. I generally use Osmicote Native twice a year and the occasional seasol.
Grant Bowie has a more rigorous regime for his Banksia.I think he has posted some info on this subject.

Peter
