I am glad you like the technique.
It can be used for branches and trunk too, Because the top is left intact auxin helps sap rise above the wound and heal it faster.
Here is one I did but this one I am planning to shift the branch up to a new location and also trunk chop it later...with the wedge technique...Note the carving for the wedge is not too big in the picture...I have made it bigger since taking the picture.

I can see some of my pictures are missing.
Here is a old picture from Sept 2013 > it was a 10 cm high seedling in April 2013 when I got it from SA.
the large trunk will come off, and the smaller one is the leader.

Nice development. I have just lifted a few of mine from the grow beds and was very pleased with the root spread. Keep lifting and pruning every year until you are happy to start branch development
