Hi everyone after reading Jow`s post i couldn`t help myself i hade to try it and whit the help of my mate tony this is the result....
The plant is a shimpaku ....i would say no older than a year

To start the shari you probably want your material to be around 1- 2cm thick. then start a very thin shari maybe a few mm wide. Lino cutting chisels ( available from art shops) are excellent for this fine work. creating a shari on both sides of the trunk like the top example will exaggerate the effect. You don't have to make the first shari a continuous strip at first, it may begin with a number of sharis that will later become joined. Then every year or two you widen the shari by a few mm or so. Soon the shari will begin to widen and will be a flat plate if dead wood with natural texture.

Winter... basically the same time as when you would be doing major work on pines. Mid winter is a pretty safe bet. Renember to start small shari wise and build on it every year. Too much drastic shari making can result in loss of branches or the tree itself.

I did a couple today but they are older material that I had laying around. Worked ok a few cracks

If you are using older material you can do a second compression of the bends when the first wirsing has set. Simply compress the curves further via re wireing or guy wires..... That way you can get almost as tight bends as starting with young material.

Hi All, this is a pic of a Radiata Pine that Jow helped me bend in July last year i slowly increased the bend over a few months the tree has not looked back thanks Jow .(when do you think we may see you back)
